Twokit stumbled out of the nursery. Sparrowfeather was out on patrol and now was the perfect time to test her hunting skills. If she was going to be an apprentice in 4 moons she would have to get to work. She started walking for the high rock. Then spun aroun toward the camp entrance. She walked easily through the otherwise tiny tunnel. She walked and walked until she found a river. A river that was precariously close to the Riverclan border. She had no clue there were more than one clan. So she ignored the scent line. She had never seen water before. It looked firm. So she stepped onto it. The "ground" gave way under her paws. She immediately went under. She couldn't get to the surface. She tried the run (underwater). When she did that, her head broke the surface and she gasped for air before going under again.

I was walking along, checking out the borders, when I heard the piercing cry of a kit in distress, from just inside Riverclan territory. I ran to the border and saw Twokit thrashing helplessly in the river. Without thinking of the trouble I'd be in for crossing the boundaries, I splashed into the river, and reached Twokit easily. I pulled her out and set her down on the Thunderclan side of the river, in a warm clump of ferns, but just as I started to lick her cold fur, a threatening snarl made me glance up to see a Riverclan patrol headed straight for me. "What are you doing in our territory?" One of the toms growled.

Twokit coughed out the water that was lodged in her lungs as Cinderpaw licked her dry. She started mewling when the breeze blew on her downy fur. Cinderpaw looked scared stiff as she looked at the bristling RiverClan warriors. She had to save Cinderpaw some-how, it was, in fact, her fault that Cinderpaw was in this mess. "Isn't it a part of the Warrior Code to save a kit in need, no mattter what Clan it's from?" She squeaked. "And she's a medicine cat apprentice, what if she was looking for herbs, or heading to moonstone? She's allowed to...right?"

"Shut up!" I whispered to Twokit. "Just stay there and keep quiet 'til the warriors are gone, then run back to camp." I pushed the ferns on top of Twokit and turned to face the Riverclan patrol. "I said, what are you doing on our territory?" The bulky tom repeated. "I was, I was just, um, looking for stuff." I stammered. "Whatever, come on, get up, you're coming with us." The tom's hard tone and sharp eyes offered no chance of argument, so I obediently stood up and followed the Riverclan patrol, hoping Twokit would be able to find her way back to camp and warn Brightstar.

Anger flared in Twokit's chest. "Don't tell me to shut up, you stupid apprentice! It's part of the warrior code to save a kit in need, and yet you go with these, fox dung filled bee-brains. When you know very well that StarClan know you've done the right thing. You need to spend more time training with Flowercloud and less time obsessing over exploring. If you actually knew the Warrior Code you would defend yourself." Her words made Cinderpaw turn back and stare at the four moon old in awe. "You're just as good as a kittypet, following them, like they have any power over you."

Sparrowheart squeezed through the braken tunnel that led to camp. He wanted to talk to Twokit about Snowshadow, his mate. She was expecting kits and he wanted Twokit to behave while she nursed. He pushed himself into the nursery, but he couldn't see Twokit. "Twokit, come out. I need to talk to you." But there was no response. He bolted over to her nest, it was empty and cold. She hadn't been there in quite some time. He streaked out of the nursery and to the high-rock. "Brightstar!" Brightstar sleepely made her way out of her den under the highrock. "What?" "Twokit's missing....I went into the nursery and she wasn't there. What will I do?" He cryed. Brightstar lept onto the highrock. "Cats!" she yowled getting the Clan's attention. "Twokit is missing!" Shocked and worried crys filled the camp. "Darkmoon, you look near the RiverClan border. Sparrowheart, you check the ShadowClan border. And Thunderheart, go check the land behind camp." The cats sttood, unmoving. "GO!!!!!" All of the chosen cats suddenly bolted out of camp.

I bit back a sharp retort, and just threw a scorching glance at Twokit, willing the obnoxious cat to be silent; the RiverClan warriors would hear Twokit if she spoke up again, and I didn't feel like defending a kit against four angry RiverClan warriors. "I thought I heard something in the river, so I came to check it out, I'm only a few pawsteps into your territory. Tell you what, I'll stop twice the next time I come to your border!" I retorted, glaring defiantly at the warriors, realizing a little too late that talking back was not the best thing to do in this situation. "Oh, you're right, there was sonething in the river," One of the cats mewed, glancing at her companions to show she was joking. "It's called a fish." "Okay, fine, because your a medicine apprentice & you're here all alone, we'll let you off with just a warning this time, but don't let it happen again! Now get off our territory!" the first tom growled. Normally I would have been happy to oblige, but Twokit was still stuck in the clump of ferns, and it wasn't too long before they picked up her scent. However, I had no chance of foghting these cats and living to tell the tale. I would just have to go get help. Obediently I turned and took the two pawsteps that led me back to my own territory.

I slinked away unto a clump of bracken, hoping the RiverClan warriors would think I was headed back to camp. As I waited for their scent to fade, I started grooming my wet fur, so any cat that saw me wouldn't think I had just gone for a swim. Once the other cats were out of sight, I headed back to the clump of ferns, but Twokit was nowhere to be seen, and she was soaking wet and left no scent trail!

Twokit watched as Cinderpaw glared at her. How dare she look at her like she was a measly fur ball. She was only 6 moons older than she was. She was totally getting back to ThunderClan camp before she got in more trouble. She stalked out of the clump of ferns and crossed the border, taking a mental note of RiverClan and ThunderClan scents. It was not more than a moment before she spotted the large boulder that she had to cross in order to get to the border. She growled to herself and walked on, slipping a little as she scrambled over the boulder. Her wet fur was making her extremely cold and before long she bagan to sneeze. She started shaking and she got light headed. When the camp was in sight Twokit got dizzy. Instantaniously, everything went black.

I walked back into ThunderClan territory and headed for the camp, wondering what I was going to tell Brightstar and Sparrowheart about Twokit's dissapearence, but just as I neared the camp, I heard a voice up ahead, "Fetch Flowercloud and Cinderpaw." I recognized Sparrowheart's voice and began to run, but stopped dead when I saw the limp little bundle of fur at the entrance to the tunnel, and a group of cats gathered around Twokit.

"Hurry!" Sparrowheart yowled. Panic flowing over him as his only daughter lay before him. He curled around her, carefully licking her dry while he waited for Flowercloud and Cinderpaw to arrive. She was so tiny, so helpless. He tried to hold back the tears that were forming in his eyes. He buried his muzzle in her fur, hoping Flowercloud would be there soon. Right then he heard little pawsteps coming near and recognized the scent of Cinderpaw. He looked up a her.

I padded up to Sparrowheart and gently nudged him away from his daughter, before dipping my head to pick up the limp bundle of fur. I carried Twokit into my den and carefully made a nest for her, with Sparrowheart breathing over my shoulder the whole time, firing questions,"What happened? What's wrong? Will she be okay?" He demanded. I responded as calmy as I could, "Twokit decided to go for a swim in the river. She's caught a chill, and I don't know if she'll be okay. Now try and go find Flowercloud." Clearly reluctant, Sparrowheart turned away and padded out through the gorse tunnel.

A moment later Sparrowheart returned with Flowercloud. Flowercloud shot into the medicine Den. "Oh! Poor baby!" She cried, looking at Twokit. "This is your test." she informed the wide-eyed Cinderpaw. Flowercloud glared at her. "Tell me the herbs to use" She demanded.
