Cinderthorn watched Eaglefrost sniff around for a bit, then turned back to Scarletclaw, then bent her head to lick the blood from her wounds, tasting the salty tang on her tongue. A moment later Eaglefrost bounded over, a wad of cobwebs in his mouth and his eyes wide with fear. He Handed them to Cinderthorn, who padded then over the worst of the wounds. Then she dipped her head to grab Scarletclaw by the scruff, gesturing with her tail that Eaglefrost should do the same.

(I know Scarlettclaw is supposed to be spelled Scarletclaw. But there's a character in GONE WITH THE WIND named Scarlett so....)
Eaglefrost padded up to Scarlettclaw's limp body and grabbed her tail. The two lifted her off of the ground and then Eaglefrost slung her over his back, gesturing to Cinderthorn to let go of her scruff. Eaglefrost padded slowly towards camp, the dead-weight of the pretty she-cat weighing him down with every paw step. But, he kept his head held high and did his best not to collapse. Even when it looked like Cinderthorn wanted to help, he sniffed and walked a little faster showing her that he no longer needed her help. As soon as he entered the camp he felt the stares of cats burn into his pelt and heard the panicked whispers of concerned clanmates. He quickly padded into the medicine den and deposited Scarlettclaw on the den floor and backed away, allowing Cinderthorn to catch up.

Annoyance rose in Cinderthorn's throat as Eaglefrost sped away from her, but she bit back a sharp retort and raced after them. Able to travel faster without the burden of the heavy she-cat, Cinderthorn padded into the clearing just behind them, quickly making a den for Scarletclaw. When the she-cat was settled, Cinderthorn turned to Eaglefros, who hoevered on the edge of the clearing. "Go find Flowercloud," she ordered. She watched him slip through the tunnel, then turned back to the unconscious cat. Gently, not wanting to reopen the wounds, she peeled the blood-stained cobweb off and raced to the herb store, grabbing up a pawful of marigold leaves. She got back to the clearing just in time to see Flowercloud race through the entrance. Cinderthorn set down the leaves and glanced at Flowercloud, waiting for orders.

"Eaglefrost told me what happened." She breathed. "How does she look?" Without waiting for a reply, Flowercloud raced into the Medicine Den. What she saw made her lightly gasp. The pretty she-cat had blood running down her leg and down her face from a sliced ear. She shook her head at the pitiful sight. "Get me some marigold, poppy seeds, and plenty more cobwebs, that bleeding is nasty." She turned to Eaglefrost. "Come and lick the wounds, we can't treat them if they aren't clean!" Eaglefrost padded weakly over to the she-cat, a worried look on his face. "Umm... will she be alright?" Flowercloud purred slightly. "Only if you start licking her wounds." Eaglefrost obediently bent down and began licking the bloody gashes, his tongue moving swiftly across her in a soothing pattern. Flowercloud turned to look for Cinderthorn. "Would you hurry up with those herbs!" And then she muttered under her breath, "For StarClan's sake!"

Cinderthorn left the herbs where they lay near her mentor, then rushed back into the den for the poppy seeds and cobwebs. She raced back to stand beside her mentor, flexing her claws impatiently as Eaglefrost rapidly licked. Finally the wounds were clean, and without waiting for instruction, she pressed the cobwebs onto the fresh blood starting to seep into the ripped fur. The cobweb was soaked in a short while. Cinderthorn carefully peeled off a section of cobweb to look; it seemed the bleeding had stopped. She peeled off the rest of the cobweb. This time, she did stop and look to Flowercloud for instruction.

Eaglefrost paced outside of the medicine den, hoping that Scarlettclaw was okay. He lay down and waited for a cat to come and tell him how the she-cat was doing.

Cinderthorn's mentor remained silent, so she acted on her own. Bending her head, she began to chew the marigold seeds into a pulp. When it had finished, she laid it over the worst wounds. She didn't think it was wise to give poppy seeds to an unconscious cat, so she left them there. Flowercloud had gone out to speak to Eaglefrost. Cinderthorn kept watch by watch by Scarlettclaw. Once the pretty she-cat woke, complaining of pain. Cinderthorn took the opportunity to give her the poppy seeds. Scarlettclaw fell back asleep. She was still unconscious when Flowercloud came back into the den.

Over the next few days, Scarlettclaw's health improved and she was released to the warriors den. She had to admit that it was good to be away from Cinderthorn's disapproving stare, but anything was better than that.
"Flowercloud?" She asked a few days later, after the medicine cat had returned from the half-moon journey.
"Yes, Scarlettclaw?" She stopped and settled next to the she-cat, sensing it would be a long conversation.
"Why do you thin Cinderthorn doesn't like me?" Scarlettclaw knew the younger grey she-cat didn't approve of her very existence, but she didn't understand why. She had always been polite to her and she had seemed not to mind her when she came over to chat every once in a while. But after she started hanging out with Eaglefrost, Cinderthorn had become cold. Sure, Cinderthorn didn't hate her, but she didn't seem to like her much, either.
Flowercloud hesitated. "Why would you say that?"
"Because," Scarlettclaw began uneasily, " she just acts so strange when she's around me."
"Well, why don't you talk to her about it, then?"
"Oh, no, no!" she shook her head, whiskers twitching. " I just couldn't!"
"You have to do something." She mewed and stood up. "She won't know how you feel unless you talk to her about it."
As Scarrlettclaw watched Flowercloud walk away, she wondered why she had chosen to become a medicine cat. She was so pretty and could've gotten any tom she wanted. An yet, she seemed not to mind spending her life without love.

Cinderthorn started to push her way through the ferns to medicine cat's clearing, but stopped when she heard Scarletclaw's voice. Padding softly, she crept up a little, until she could see Scarletclaw and Flowercloud, settled won and talking. "Why do you think Cinderthorn doesn't like me?" Scarletclaw was asking. Cinderthorn felt a little bewildered; she couldn't think of what she had done to make Scarletclaw feel that way. True, she was mad at Eaglefrost, but she didn't think she had been that horrible to Scarletclaw. By the time Cinderthorn started paying attention again, Flowercloud was saying, "...know how you feel unless you talk to her about it." Flowercloud got up and walked away, towards the den. Cinderthorn noticed that Scarletclaw was watching her, too, and Cinderthron wondered what she was thinking. Suddenly Scarletclaw stood up to leave. Cinderthorn didn't want to be found eavesdropping. As quietly as she could, she slipped backwards through the tunnel and into the main clearing. When Scarletclaw pushed her way out, Cinderthorn had put several fox-lengths between herself and the ferns. She walked towards the tunnel, trying to look as though she had just entered the clearing and was on her way to her den. Scarletclaw looked slightly embarrassed when she met Cinderthorn's eyes. Trying to keep her voice light Cinderthorn mewed, "Hello Scarletclaw, getting your wounds checked again? What did Flowercloud say?" Scarletclaw looked as though she wanted to say something. Cinderthorn could guess what it was, but didn't push her, just waited patiently for a reply.

"Oh, hi Cinderthorn." Scarlettclaw slowly stood up and mewed, "Yeah. She thinks I should be ready for warrior duties again. The wounds weren't that bad, so..."

Cinderthron swallowed. "Yeah? That's great! Everyone sure was worried when they saw you at first." She tried to keep her voice steady as she added, "Have you told Eaglefrost yet? I'm sure he'll want to be the first to go on patrol with you." She had tried to sound gebuinely pleased, but she could tell from the look on Scarletclaw's face that she had heard that little crack in her voice when she said Eaglefrost's name.

"Um, Cinderthorn?" She mewed weakly. "What's up between you Eaglefrost?" But Scarlettclaw saw the uncomfort in Cinderthorn's eyes and led her to the edge of the clearing. "Please, Cinderthorn, I really want to know. Just tell me the truth."

Cinderthorn looked around desperately, trying to find a way out of this, but the clearing was desrted; she had nop choice but to follow Scarletclaw to the edge. She took a deep breath, trying to think of how to start. "A while back, me and Eaglefrost, I guess you would say we liked each other. It was tense though, because I'm a medicine cat apprentice, and such. I know I shouldn't have, but I couldn't help it!" She paused, trying to force the despair out of her voice; she wasn't going to look weak inf ront of Scarletclaw. She calmed her voice and went on. "I don't even completely know what happened. One day I was out by Sunning Rocks, and he was asleep by the shore, so I woke him up. I guess I was a little too harsh when I asked him what he was doing, and he started to get riled up. He said he was taking a break and getting ready to go on a walk with you, I got mad and said he should be doing more useful things, he got even more mad, and we just both said some thigns we shouldn't have. We haven't spoken a friendly word since." She stopped and looked at Scarletclaw, realizing too late that she may have said too much.

Scarlettclaw stood infront of the gray she-cat, trying desperately to absorb everything that she had just said, but she couldn't manage to understand why she had never noticed this. She had bewen living in the same den with and lived in the same camp as Eaglefrost since she was a kit, but she never would've thought something was going on between them. But that just showed how truly blind she was. Just at that moment Eaglefrost came in through the thorn tunnel, chatting with Flowercloud through a mouthful of herbs and berries. Eaglefrost set down the herbs at the mouth of the medicine cave and glanced at her, a certain look in his eyes. A look that made them sparkle and made Scarlettclaw sick. How could Eaglefrost not have told her? She was his friend, right? But they were more then friends, she thought. They had to be. But with this new truth being reveled, she wasn't sure if that was how it was going to be anymore. Eaglefrost picked up the herbs and disappeared into the medicine den. "Did you love him, Cinderthorn?" She looked at her, her pain showing through. "I want a plain answer. Please?"

Cinderthorn tried to say no, but couldn't quite manage it. "Yes," she whispered. "It doesn't matter though. I'm a medicine cat apprentice. It never would have worked. "Besides, he loves you now. And you love him back. The whole clan can tell." She could feel the unseen claws of a thousand enemies digging into her heart with every word, and though she tried desperately not to let Scarletclaw see her pain, she could tell the she-cat had heard her choke.
